Casimir Pulaski

Casimir Pulaski was a military officer from Poland and was most known for his gallant fight alongside American colonists in the Revolutionary War. Though throughout Europe, he was known for his courage and keen battle tactics against Russia ("Prussia" at the time). Those tactics won several battles for Poland, however, Russia and Austria were able to divide the country and Pulaski had to flee to Paris. In Paris, Pulaski met Benjamin Franklin and after some discussion, he enlisted in the army to help the colonists fight the British. Pulaski later created cavalry and infantry units known as "Pulaski's Legion" after receiving great amounts of respect in America. He trained these units and tested them on fighting on horseback using the same tactics that he used in Poland. After they were prepared and properly trained, Pulaski and his units were sent to fight in Charleston and later on, siege Savannah. The fight in Charleston was a success and he moved on to Savannah. During the third week of the almost month-long battle, Pulaski was shot and severely injured. He was being transported to Charleston by boat for medical attention but unfortunately died while still on the ship. Pulaski's skills in battle will forever be remembered and honored on October 11th every year and through the monuments and schools named after him spread throughout the country.
