Welcome to 8th grade! This year promises to be a very exciting one that will be filled with great learning opportunities and many chances for your child to grow on the social, emotional and academic levels. Teaching your child is a duty and responsibility that I take very seriously and I will do my best to make sure that each student has a motivating, fun, and safe learning experience. However, I cannot do this alone – I will need your help. We need to be partners in your child’s learning.
Some guidelines to help you and your child navigate this school year smoothly:
Respect everyone: this includes other classmates, all teachers and staff in the building. Respect begets respect.
Be Punctual: Students need to be on time to school and to my class at all times. The first 10-15 minutes of class are usually the most important as it sets the tone for the lesson and engages students in a motivational activity that ties into the lesson of the day. In addition, this is a good habit to develop for the world beyond the classroom.
Grade 8 / Homeroom 8-4 class schedule:
Be prepared: Students need to be prepared for class. This includes completing assignments at home and having them ready to turn in. Eighth graders still need to be supervised, so parents please see to it that notes are being reviewed on a daily basis!! There is no such thing as “I don’t have any homework”. Please encourage your children at home by seeing that they have completed their assignments and are prepared for tests and quizzes. Scholars should be prepared for school every day and be mindful of the assignments that need to be completed. Homework is very important to a student’s learning and is one of the pillars of learning.
Staying Organized: It is crucial for students to remain as organized as possible as this will facilitate their learning process and make the whole journey less overwhelming.
If your child is struggling, please reach out to me at zshouery@yonkerspublicschools.org or via text on the Remind App and let me know. I am more than happy to help.
Here's to a successful school year ahead!
Go 8-4!
