LEGO Engineering Initiative - A Learning Technology Grant Project Year 1 (2018-2019)

Year 1 of the Yonkers LTG focused on professional development for teachers and administrators on using the Microsoft technology platform and LEGO professional development in the Microsoft Innovative Educator Training Series and the implementation of the Lego Robotics Program for students in the second and third grades. This series of professional development included the following sessions and topics.
Session 1 topics:
- An introduction to the Microsoft Educator Community and Microsoft Teams
- How to use Microsoft 365 for blended learning
- How to use the Microsoft Translator application
Session 2 topics:
- Using Microsoft Teams
- Dyslexia awareness
- The Microsoft Educator Community
Session 3 topics:
- Using Microsoft Teams and Microsoft Sway

The FIRST LEGO League Jr. Competition for Students, ages 6-10, was held on June 8 from 10 a.m. - 1 p.m.. Student teams from Eugenio Maria de Hostos School, Family School 32, Martin Luther King, Jr. Academy, School 22, St. Anthony's School, and St. Peter's School competed with the assistance of several high school teams. High school students from Riverside High School, Yonkers Middle High School, and Saunders Trades and Technical High School worked with the students and also showcased their robots.
The high school First teams and their robots included:
- The Mechanical Futurists and EDISON from Riverside High School
- The MechaDogs and Vertigo from Yonkers Middle High School
- The Droid Factory and Stan from Saunders Trades and Technical High School
