Nearpod Professional Learning to Engage Students

  • Nearpod 101 Training

    This training provided teachers with a review of various engagement tools including polls, collaborative boards, interactive assessments, virtual field trips and drawing slides. The training also provided techniques for facilitating ready-made lessons, accessing the Nearpod library of videos and lessons, and using the platform for creating a new lesson or importing PowerPoints and other teacher-created materials. 

    Nearpod 102 Training

    This training provided teachers with a deeper dive into the Nearpod platform, focusing on navigating, selecting, and facilitating a lesson through the lesson library. Additional tools were demonstrated such as the “quick launch” feature for teachers to create activities, edit lessons, and use engagement tools for formative and summative assessments.  

    Nearpod Data to Drive Instruction

    This training focused on using the data tools to measure student engagement and progress. Using sample lessons, the facilitator explored with Yonkers teachers the progress monitoring and engagement features as well as the summative reports. The facilitator provided guidance on how to share and download information and reports.  


    Nearpod: Historical Perspectives and Literacy for Yonkers Public Schools Teachers

    This training focused on how to access and use the lessons and videos located within the historical perspectives and literacy (HPL) section on the Nearpod teacher dashboard. The lessons are designed to be interactive and to delve deeper into historical content and to embed diverse literacy techniques.  The facilitator engaged Yonkers teachers in a sample lesson, demonstrated how to set up a lesson, create a sequence of lessons and how to add interactive tools to further engage students.

    Using Flocabulary  to Engage Students

    This professional development session for Yonkers teachers provided strategies and content for engaging students in content areas. through hip hop and rap music and videos. Flocabulary is a program that is owned by Nearpod. 

    Flocabulary - Culturally Responsive Teaching Lens With A Focus On Teaching At The Secondary Level  

    This professional development session for Yonkers teachers provides strategies and content to engage students and increase achievement at the secondary level. The facilitator highlights the rigorous content, vocabulary development, and other benefits of utilizing Flocabulary to enhance instruction. Content provided is relevant to students and is regularly updated to ensure content is current and meaningful. Additional highlights include the use of Flocabulary in a culturally responsive class setting.

    Teaching Historical Perspective and Literacy with Nearpod

    In this professional development session, Nearpod facilitator Jess Sangiorgio explores the Windows and Mirrors themes within this interactive technology with Yonkers teachers. The program helps teachers to integrate historical perspectives and literacy components into their lessons. The program and features can be adapted for every grade level and content area.
