Ms. T. McDowell

I have worked in the field of special education for approximately twenty years. I began working for Yonkers Public School District in September 2017.

My philosophy of education embraces the notion that every child can learn. As a teacher of students with disabilities, it is my job to provide rigorous instruction of academic content and skills. I strive to help students develop the values and social skills that they will need in order to succeed. With the support of study skills and the teaching of self-discipline, I believe that every student can be educated and reach his or her fullest potential. My professional goal is to help shape youngsters into responsible, civic-minded, goal-oriented contributors to the society in which they live.

My previous experience in education includes work as a grade learning specialist. In this role, I supported other teachers and special education support staff, by working collaboratively with other grade level learning specialists to provide schoolwide professional development sessions on topics such as differentiation, classroom management, IEP development and collaborative team teaching.

I continue to promote educational resiliency by encouraging students with special needs, to master new and challenging experiences, believe in their own efficacy, and take responsibility for their own learning.
