8th Grade Homework Expectations
Posted by MICHAEL MEZZANCELLO on 10/5/2021 9:00:00 AMGood morning parents and guardians,
It is important that your child begin using Microsoft Teams for ELA again.
At this time in the first unit, it becomes necessary for students to begin reading some of the novel at home. As such, I have provided all students with the full text through Microsoft Teams. I am expecting all students to use their phones and/or other electronics to read the text at home. Please assist your child if necessary, and if you have issues with your child using technology please inform me so I can think of a different solution.
Once more, it is important that your child begin using Microsoft Teams for ELA again. Please assist them, or reach out to me for help.
Thank you very much, and please contact me with any questions you have.
Sincerely,
Mr. MezzancelloP.S. If you would like access to the full text for your own reference, please visit my ELA page in Class Dojo.

Marking Period 1 Expectations
Posted by MICHAEL MEZZANCELLO on 9/8/2021 5:00:00 PMDuring the first week of ELA lessons (September 9-10), students will be learning the classroom routines and will be preparing their materials for the first unit. It is very important that all students have (2) Journals for ELA.
When the second week begins, students will begin their first unit.
7th Grade will read "A Long Walk to Water" and explore the experiences of those who survived the Sudanese Civil War. This unit centers on the cultural experiences of Sudanese tribes.
8th Grade will read "Inside Out and Back Again" and explore the experiences of those involved in the Vietnam war. This unit centers on cultural experiences of those in Southwest Asia.
Throughout unit 1, both 7th grade and 8th grade classes will rely on Thinking Maps to keep track of all information explored throughout the reading. Each lesson's work will be used in the final project for the unit. It is important that students have their Journals every day.
