• Hostos Transition to Hybrid Learning (10/5/2020)

    Introduction

We are excited to welcome students back to the school building beginning October 5th, for a combination of in-person instruction and at home remote learning. Please read below to insure you are aware of the new protocols that must be followed to accomplish this transition.

    Tracks

All students have been assigned one of four tracks/cohorts:

    Track

    In-Person School Days

    Remote Learning Days

    A

    Monday-Tuesday

    Wednesday-Friday

    B

    Thursday-Friday

    Monday-Wednesday

    C*

    Monday-Tuesday/Thursday-Friday

    Wednesday

    D

    None

    Monday-Friday

*Track C is only available to pre-identified special education students.

Students and families who have opted for remote only instruction will continue to participation exclusively through online learning. At this time, parents in track D that would like to participate in Hybrid/In-Person instruction must wait until next semester to be moved into Tracks A and B. If a family would like to transition from Track A or B into Track D (Remote Only), they must notify Ms. Mejia in writing or by email (eperez-mejia@yonkerspublicschools.org) before September 30, 2020.

Students can only enter the building or board a school bus on their assigned In-Person school days. Parents and students must be aware of their assigned track. If you are unsure what days you are to attend, please reach out to your teacher before bringing your child to school.

    Daily Health Screenings

If your child is experiencing symptoms of COVID-19 (100+ temp, coughing, shortness of breath, loss of smell, etc), they must stay home and get tested.

All students are required to submit a daily Health Questionnaire to verify that in the last 14 days your child has no:

    1. COVID symptoms (no temperature over 99.9⁰F)
    2. Contact with anyone testing positive for COVID
    3. Positive test for COVID
    4. Travel outside of the NY/NJ/CT area

You will need to turn in a signed questionnaire every morning before your child can enter the school building or board a school bus. Extra copies will be available at the school should you not have access to a printer.

All students will have their temperature checked upon entering the school. Parents must make arrangements to pick up any symptomatic child immediately to avoid hospitalization. The school must have updated contact information for all parents and emergency contacts.

Changes from Previous Practice at Hostos

    • Classrooms have a capacity of no more than 15 students
    • Hallways have been marked with regular indicators of 6ft to insure social distancing is practiced.
    • Students will have access to Grab and Go breakfast to eat in the classroom daily. Students will have access to a hot lunch in the cafeteria once a week and Grab and Go lunch in the classroom once a week. Students may not share food/drinks with each other. Students bringing their own lunch/snacks should pack them in disposable bags (ex. Brown paper sack).
    • All staff and students will wear face coverings and maintain 6ft of social distancing throughout the school day. Teachers will arrange for scheduled mask breaks as social distancing allows.
    • Students should bring a personal water bottle. Water fountain have been turned off but bottle filling stations have been installed on each floor.

Hostos Transition to Hybrid Learning (10/5/2020)

    Arrival

Student arrival time and entrance used will be staggered by grade level in order to reduce congestion

    • Students will not be allowed into the building before their admission time. Students and parents waiting outside must maintain social distancing, form a line, and avoid crowding entrances.
    • After students enter they will be walked past the temperature kiosk and directly to class. Pre-K and K students will have their temperature taken at the outside classroom doors.
    • Students who miss their arrival time will not be able to enter the building until all other grades have completed entry and temperature checks. Late arriving students will need to use the front entrance. Students will not be admitted after 9:10. If a student needs to attend an appointment or otherwise cannot be on time they should make arrangements with their teacher to participate in remote learning that day. Likewise students cannot be picked up early except in the cases of a medical emergency.
