Dear Parents/Guardians,

            Welcome to 6^th grade! Our plan is to have a fun and exciting year full of learning, hands on experiences, teamwork, community building, socialization and so much more.

            During the 2023-2024 academic school year, students will learn new skills and strategies.  For example, in Math, our focus will be learning about ratios, fractions, expressions, equations, rational numbers, volume, surface area, and statistics.  It is important for students to have a solid understanding of multiplication/division to best apply the necessary skill sets.

In English Language Arts, students will continue to build upon reading comprehension skills such as central idea, theme, key details, story structure, point of view, idioms, cause and effect, inferring, formal language, and making text connections. We will continue to work on the writing process and build students’ abilities to create focused, clear and organized responses. 

For Science, students will engage in hands-on activities, focusing on different scientific concepts, such as energy, simple machines, minerals and states of matter. 

Finally, in Social Studies, students will dig into the geography and history of ancient civilizations. For example, students will discover new vocabulary terms, and complete fun creative activities that exhibit their understanding of various topics.

We are truly excited to work side by side with our students and parents/guardians.  We will be using Class Dojo as a means of virtual communication, as well email and the Westchester Hills School 29 teacher links.
