Environmental Studies Pathway Overview
Pathway Overview
The Environmental Studies pathway here at the Barack Obama School for Social Justice offers daily instruction and hands-on training that will prepare students for a future in environmental studies. This comprehensive program allows students to learn about, recognize, and implement opportunities for service within our community. Students will understand the highest priority of ensuring the well-being of family, friends and neighbors that comprise our surrounding area.
Participating in the Environmental Studies pathway opens doors to many career opportunities. Some of these include, but are not limited to: environmental scientist, ecologist, urban planner, environmental engineer, biologist, park ranger, and botanist. A career in the environmental field offers great life experiences that cannot be duplicated elsewhere. These multiple job possibilities provide a diverse selection of roles and/or job titles. A common theme that students will share is the ability to study and report on the impact of humans on the natural world. These interactions and learning experiences will provide knowledge that goes far beyond the walls of the classroom.
As a member of the program, students have the ability to work hand-in-hand with outside agencies and/or companies. Forming these relationships will foster and provide environmental education and awareness. Furthermore, students will receive practical training with experienced Environmentalists and Biologists. These hands-on training sessions will help to strengthen student knowledge and reinforce prior instruction.
Upon completion of the program, students will be equipped with the skills necessary for employment within the Environmental Studies field. They will be exposed to the overall workings and daily occurrences that a seasoned Environmentalist experiences. They will be ready to solve problems and deliver proper assistance to the communities, as well as, the natural habitats and ecosystems that they are a part of. Their support of the environment will be crucial for our self-sustaining world continuing as we know it.
