Schoology
YPS uses Schoology as its learning management system. Schoology enables our students, and teachers to engage with learning materials and their school community from the classroom and beyond.
With Schoology, students can digitally submit homework assignments, review grades, participate in interactive discussions, receive announcements and feedback, take tests, write academic blogs, and more. As a parent, you will be able to view your child’s activity within the platform.
Students and staff use a Single-Sign-On tool utilizing their school account.
Note: While you may see scores for some assignments and assessments within the Schoology application, all official grade, attendance, report card information will be found in PowerSchool.

Welcome to 7th grade Science! We will be studying integrated science this school year. Integrated science means a mixture of many different science subjects. We will be exploring Biology, Earth science, and chemistry. This will allow students to receive more hands-on practice and learn more transferrable skills. In addition to lectures and readings, students learn through a variety of laboratory activities, NYS regents problem sets, computer exercises, research projects, oral presentations, and various types of formal lab report write ups. Units that we will cover throughout the year :
Scientific Method
Periodic Table
Plate Tectonics
Rocks & Minerals
Weather
Intro to Cells
Homework: 10%, Classwork: 20% , Quizzes: 10% , Exams/Tests 40% , Lab/projects 20% Total= 100%Part of being successful in middle school is learning how to be a responsible student and completing assignments for all teachers.- Homework is due as follows: assignments given on Monday are due Wednesday; assignments given on Wednesday are due Friday. All assignments will be posted and submitted on TEAMS.
- Attendance is taken daily as why being on time to class and coming to class every day is VERY important. All missed and graded coursework will be posted on Power School. Classwork is expected daily, and graded daily. When we meet, lecture assignments are completed in the students' notebook. Classwork is graded based on the work provided in our interactive classroom lecture for the day. Participation is included in this category and very important. If the student does not attend class on a particular day, the student is required to make up the missing work by that Friday. Full credit is given if and when the work is completed by that Friday.
- Quizzes are given half way through the unit/chapter. They are open book allowing students to use their notes in their notebooks. They serve as important check-ins throughout each unit. Quizzes can be openended, multiple choice, or a mix or both.
- Please click on link for Yonkers Public School Code of Conduct : Code Of Conduct for more information.
- Exams/Tests come at the end of each unit, and sometimes within a unit if it may take 2 weeks.Tests will have multiple choice and open ended questions in the style of their quizes. Before any exam, I provide a review lesson the day prior. Students are allowed to take the test multiple times until they've obtained a passing grade by making correcctions the day after the exam was given.
Students will work on labs or projects in class/home on the current topic we are covering. Students will observe results and answer questions based on their observations. Labs/projects are graded based on the work provided. All missed and graded labs/projects will be posted on Power School.
Hey...I’m doing this because I think teaching is great...and I think Science is AMAZING! I love to help. If you don’t understand something, ask me! Ask anyone! Just make sure you ask...otherwise you’ll find yourself falling even further behind, and I would hate for that to happen.

As a living thing, we share a common bond with millions of other known organisms. What makes us and other life forms alike or different? What life activities do we carry out? You are about to explore a course in Regents Biology that will answer these questions. This course stresses the basic life functions that occur in all living organisms with emphasis on the following topics:
Cells
Biochemistry
Genetics
Biotechnology
Evolution
Ecology
Human Impact
