Mission Statement

Our mission is to develop scholars with active and creative minds, a sense of understanding and compassion for others, and the courage to act on their beliefs. Martin Luther King Jr. Academy is a haven for children seeking intellectual enlightenment and stresses the total development of each child: moral, intellectual, social, emotional, and physical.

Martin Luther King Jr. Academy is a gem on the Westside of Yonkers. We offer extensive educational programs which prepare our students for a successful transition to high school. Social Justice and Restorative Practice are the pillars of our foundation; giving each child a voice and the ability to speak out and change the world around them. This community school offers support to our families through constant collaboration between all stakeholders. It is our goal to serve our students and families in order to make each dream a reality.

Dear Families, Parents and Children,

My name is Mr. Francis Jamieson and I have recently received the list of children who have been assigned to my class starting on September 5th.

I am eager to talk with you and look forward to meeting you all soon.

I am hopeful that we will be partners with a shared goal of advancing each child based on their individual needs, strengths and interests, while engaging and challenging students, collaboratively building for each child the foundation for a fulfilling future. Together we will provide a safe and caring environment at school as it is at home. Surely, our united focus can be jointly framed so that each child will advance socially, emotionally and academically throughout the coming year.
