Dear Parents and Guardians of Westchester Hills School 29 Community,
I am excited to start the 2021-2022 school year with you and your child. I am completely aware that this transition back to school might take some time adjusting to considering the last 18 months, it is more important than ever that we work together- teacher and parent- to provide your child with a robust educational experience to achieve academic success. I understand we may be enduring rough times, however, as educators we must ensure students are receiving the best possible instruction, as well as, programs and related services.
As a Resource Teacher, I reteach concepts taught in the classroom and support progression towards meeting annual educational goals as dictated by the IEP (Individualized Education Plan.) Students are also provided with the individualized enrichment instruction in math, reading, writing, and study skills. The smaller setting caters to specialized lessons and is more conducive to students specific learning needs. The ultimate goal is to provide students with essential long-term academic skills so they no longer need Resource.
Please check out our group rules and expectations, located in the toolbar to the left hand side of the screen. In addition, there are various resources available for parents also located on the left hand side of the webpage. Please explore these websites, as they are there to help support and assist your child through this school year.
Remember, parents and guardians, reading every day with your child is not just a great practice that will improve your child's literacy skills, but it is also a way to support your child emotionally during these uncertain times. Simple measures like reviewing addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division skills with your child will help with automatic recall of these basic facts. I encourage you to use the CLEVER Platform to access a wide variety of online educational activities that will benefit and entertain your child.
I want to stress to parents and guardians that Westchester Hills School 29 understands that the online educational process is challenging and every family has its own level of familiarity and capacity as it relates to the use of technology. What is truly important during this time is that your child attempts to do the best they can with what tools they have available. Caring for your child's emotional needs is just as important as their educational needs. I understand the need to balance both, and I ask that you contact me with any questions you may have at mmorrone@yonkerspublicschools.org or send me a message on Class Dojo.
Please remain safe and be well!
Sincerely,
Miss Monica Morrone
