How can students keep up with their learning during a school closure?

  • Hi everyone!

This page was created because Martin Luther King Jr. Academy might have to close temporarily if there is a report of a Coronavirus infection within the school. The school will have to be cleaned and sanitized, and students and staff might have to remain at home for several weeks to make sure that no one is spreading the infection to anyone else within the building.

During your time off from school, all students will be expected to continue to do schoolwork daily. Either your classroom teacher(s) will have provided you with study packets and worksheets, or else, you will be expected to go online to check for daily schoolwork assignments. If you have a computer at home that has internet access -- that's great! If you don't have a computer at home, perhaps you can access your online assignments on a family smartphone. As a last resort, you can always go to the public library, where free internet access is always available. You can sign onto a computer at the library using your library card, or you can bring your own laptop or tablet or smartphone and access the free wifi signal provided by the library.

So, your expectations during your time out of the building are:

    1) Read daily for at least 20 minutes (or longer!)

    2) Stay informed by listening to, or watching, reliable news telecasts (on TV or on the web)

    3) Check your take-home packets to see if you have schoolwork to do that day

    4) Check online to see if your teacher has assigned you any new work to do that day
