Art Therapy Assignments

Art therapy is hoping you and your family will stay safe and healthy during this stressful and uncertain time. The following are activities that you can do at home with your child in case we are closed for an extended length of time. For the most part, materials can be found at home or are basic supplies that your child uses consistently in art therapy (these materials can be bought at your local grocery, Target, Walmart, and some pharmacies).
The goals of art therapy;- to provide sensory exploration- to build fine motor skills (FMS)- to build active participation and task attention- to build creative development and imagination

Dr. Rowena’s Art Therapy Session: Penguin Problems
Penguin Problems by Jory John and illustrated by Lane Smith, Random House Publishers, NY
Assignment Directive:
1- Watch the video and participate with Dr. Rowena as she goes through an art therapy session reading today’s book.
2- Draw a picture using any art materials you want (crayons, pencils, markers, paints, clay, etc.). Be sure to follow the lines and use color and your creative imagination to make a great product!
3- Take a picture of yourself holding up your artwork and email it to me when you’re done. I can’t wait to see!
