I am PROUD to be ME!

  • Second graders are excited about learning new things.

SOCIAL/EMOTIONAL/WORK HABITS: Second grade students continue to learn to treat other with kindness and respect.  They learn to share and help others when needed. They learn to make better choices and to move on from sad or disappointing experiences by forgiving their friends. Second graders learn that practice can make them better.  They learn that mistakes can help them learn.  Second graders learn to make better choices. They learn to organize their belongings so they don't lose things.

ELA: The second grade English Language Arts curriculum provides opportunities for students to improve their reading so that they become independent readers, and can learn from what they read.  Students write daily using sentences, then paragraphs, making sure to sound out words, include punctuation, and capital letters, as well as make sure that their writing makes sense.  We use the Benchmark Curriculum which can be found on Clever.

MATH: Math skills in second grade help students make connections to know how math applies to their world in the form of adding and subtracting 2 and 3 digit numbers, noticing and repeating patterns, naming shapes, measuring, telling time, identifying and adding money, and analyzing data. This year we are using the I-Ready math curriculum which is available on Clever.

SCIENCE AND SOCIAL STUDIES:  Our new science curriculum is HMH Into Science, and social studies work keeps students connected to the real world with lessons that encourage students to compare and contrast, use their senses, and identify and solve problems.

STEAM : We incorporate some STEAM projects during the school year to help students see how they can use science, technology and teamwork, engineering, art and math to solve problems and invent new things.

TECHNOLOGY: We use laptops and chromebooks to practice skills, take tests, look up unfamiliar words, research topics, and find the answer to questions about everything. This is an important year for students to begin learning how to type to prepare for state testing that will begin in third grade.  Your child can use their Clever badge to log on at home to practice different skills using the apps on Clever.  Just let me know if you need a copy!

Everyone can learn.  Practice helps you get better. ALWAYS DO YOUR BEST
