Dress Code

  • Good grooming and personal appearance are essential, if not critical, elements in the teaching and learning process.  Therefore, it is expected that teachers, administrators, school personnel and students dress in such a manner that will ensure health and safety in the school. Furthermore, it is essential that dress and personal appearance not be disruptive or interfere with the legitimate interest and welfare of students.

     

    • Mondays are designated as Dress for Success Days. Please come to school dressed for a college or industry interview.

     

    1. Clothes must be worn that appropriately cover the body and do not reveal any undergarments or interfere with student safety.  Pants must be fastened at the waist.  “Sagging” is strictly prohibited.  No bare midriff, no spaghetti straps, no tube tops, no tank tops, no halter tops. Straps must be fastened at the shoulders.  NO EXCEPTIONS.
    2. Footwear must be worn at all times.  Footwear that is a safety hazard will not be allowed.  Footwear designed to accommodate shoelaces must be worn with the shoelaces. No slippers, slides or flip-flops.  All footwear must be fastened around the back of the foot.
    3. Care should be taken that skirts and shorts are appropriate and do not disrupt the orderly process of teaching and learning.  Skirts and shorts must be no more than 2 inches above the knee.
    4. Students will not wear clothing which promotes inappropriate products or activities prohibited by school policies or that is likely to cause a material and substantial disruption in school. T-shirts and other clothing that displays abusive language, profanity, illegal organizations/gangs, or substances will not be worn.  Clothing that is associated with or identifiable as a symbol of a gang or street club, may not be permitted in school or on school property.
    5. In the interest of the safety and welfare of all the students, headgear of any kind (including, but not limited to hats, caps, hoods, do-rags, bandanas and scarves) may not be worn in school except for headgear required to be worn by a student’s recognized religion or for medical reasons.
    6. In the interest of the safety and welfare of all students, clothing generally accepted as ‘outer wear’ may not be worn in the building.
    7. Jewelry that may be deemed as a WEAPON is not allowed.  This includes, but is not limited to, rings across multiple fingers, spiked necklaces or belts, belts with large removable chains and buckles, heavy/large neckwear, ninja-type stars, chain link wallets, key rings, etc.
    8. Students are prohibited from wearing pajamas in school.
    9. Students and staff are required to wear appropriate or protective gear in certain classes such as physical education and science labs.
