Welcome to the 11th and 12th ENL Entering level class. This year we are going to cover many topics while focusing on reading, writing, listening, and speaking.
Course objective: The objective of this course is to reinforce and enhance English language skills for speakers of other languages so that they are better prepared to pass their core classes and succeed after high school.
Summary of course work: This course will cover the following: reading and listening comprehension of non-fiction, analyzing short stories, comparing character traits and common themes of different genre and how they relate to our own lives. It will also cover grammar and spelling strategies necessary for writing sentences, paragraphs, essays, and public speaking. The Common Core Learning Standards will guide our lessons in listening, speaking, reading, writing, cooperative learning, and critical thinking.

* When getting into groups or working with partners, they are expected to do it quickly and quietly.
* Students are expected to wait for the teacher's dismissal before they start packing.
* Students are expected to use appropriate language and respect their peers and myself at all times.
Cell phone policy: The use of cell phones, Ipods, and other electronic devices is strictly prohibited in the classroom at all times. Any of the mentioned items used during class time, will be confiscated immediately. As soon as students walk into the room, all cell phones should be put in their backbacks.
Absences: It is the student's responsibility to complete missed work and to email me to find out what he/she has missed.
Quizzes/tests: are to be made up immediately after school or during his/her lunch period. Students must make an appointment with me to make up the work.
