To Kill a Mockingbird by Harper Lee is a work of fiction which explores social injustice and racism during the 1930's in America's deep south. The setting takes place in Maycomb, Alabama. The novel consists of two parts: Part 1) Childhood Adventures / The Mystery of Recluse Neighbor, Boo Radley and Part 2) Trial of Tom Robinson.
Point of View: First person, Scout Finch. Told from Scout's point of view as an adult reflecting back on her childhood experieces. (6 years old at the start of story) Scout lives with her father, Atticus , a single dad - widowed lawyer and her older brother, Jem.
Setting: Maycomb, Alabama - slow and old fashioned town, slightly backwards and has strong racist elements. (1933-1935)
