Work to Complete Should Ms. Ennis Be Absent and School Be Remote

  • If Ms. Ennis is absent, then there will be no Live Teams Meetings.  However your child should stay engaged in work and learning.  Your child  should be working on the assignments for the week.  Please review the Daily Independent Work tab.  Remember, there is work on the following apps - Benchmark, BrainPop, BrainPop Jr, Readworks.org, and SumDog.

    DAY 1

    1.  Assignment 1:  Please go to the Benchmark App and choose a story from assignments.  Listen to this story be read or try to read it yourself and answer the questions below on a piece of paper.  If you would like to choose a favorite book you have at home, then please feel free to do so.

     

    a.  Is the story fiction or non-fiction?  How do you know?

    b.  Who are the character in the story?

    c.  Where does the story take place?

    d.  What is the character's problem?

    e.  How does the character solve the problem?

    f.  When does the story take place?

    g.  Why did the author write this story - to persuade, to inform or to entertain?

    h.  Draw a picture of your favorite part of the story and describe what you drew.

     

    2.  Your child should use the I-Ready App for about 20 to 30 minutes today.  He/she can enjoy playing the games that have been created to address his/her needs.

     

    3.  The words below contain digraphs (sh, th, ph, ch, wh, ss).  Today you will write the words in two groups:  Words with digraph at the begining of the word and Words with digraph at the end of the word.

    4.  Please go on Clever and use the SumDog App to practice math.

    5.  Please go on the BrainPop Jr. App and watch the video about place value.  Then, try to take the hard and easy quiz

     

    Day 2

     

    1. Please take a book that you read at home or you can think of one we read in class.  In fact, you can go on the One More Story App on Clever to find a book too. You can also choose a book from the Benchmark App.  Next, answer the following questions in your notebook:

    a.  Is this book fiction or nonfiction?  How do you know?

    b.  Why do you like this book?or Why do you dislike this book?

    c.  Why did the author write this book - to persuade, to inform or to entertain.

     

    2.  We are learning about vowels - a, e,i,o,u- which are letters that make two sounds- a long sound (say name) and a short sound.  Go to Clever.  Go on BrainPop Jr. and watch the Vowels video.  Complete the hard and easy quizz

     

    3.  On paper write the words below into two groups- a long vowel group and a short vowel group.

    bake, bat, rake, rat, glow, bow, be, wish, flash, flag, make, flake, luch, pick, wish, shake, lake, ten, week, cube, cub, bike, bit, ride, red, best, west

     

    4.  On paper, please write about your day.  Be sure to tell me 3 things you did.  Your sentences should have punctuation and proper capitalization.

     

    5.  Please go on Sumdog and practice math.

     

    6.  Please use the I-Ready App for 20 to 30 minutes.  Enjoy playing the games..  

     

    Day 3

     

    1.  We learned about our government.  In fact we read many stories about government.  Go to the BrainPop Jr. App on Clever and watch,"Our State and Local Government".  Go to the Benchmark App and read some government stories.

    2.  On paper, write 5 facts about the government.

    3.  We learned about consonant blends.  Copy the words below on paper and circle the blends.

    black, slip, clip, stick, stop, flag, block, crib, crab, class, blast, jump, lump. stuck. west, rest, play, clay, crayon, glass, grass, free, trim

    4.  Please spend 20 to 30 minutes using the I-Ready App.

    5.  Pick a story to read in your current Benchmark Unit.  The stories are in your assignments.  Write three things your learned from your reading.  Please be sure to use complete sentences.

    6.  Draw a picture of one of your favorite people.  Print words all around that person that describe him or her.  We call these words adjectives.  Examples may be - pretty, cute, fast, tiny, big, tall, short, smart, fast, slow, funny, intelligent, helpful, kind, loving....

     

     

  • Regular Class Substitute

    Ms. Ennis has left the classroom substitute a  "Sub Folder" to the right of the teacher's desk on the file cabinet.  This folder contains a  class list, seating chart, bus/pick-up list and schedule for the day.  Below the folder are green files for each subject area.  Inside each file, there are a variety of activities and projects for the children to complete.  There is also a black bucket, which contains arts and craft projects, which the children love.  Also, there are flashcards to review math facts. Please note that in the doorway, I have set-up an information station.  Please review all items in this area so that you are aware of children's dietary restrictions, fire drill procedures, daily schedule, prep schedule, bus and pick-up list and seating chart.  Please feel free to ask the neighboring teachers should you have any questions or concers.  Enjoy your day with a wonderful class.  

     

     

    Please note, your child should complete any incomplete work during this time.  Also, he/she should continue to read.  There are books available on the Benchmark App.
