Ms. Regina Schlusberg

Happy New Year! I am looking forward to an amazing year. It will look different but we still have the same goals. We will continue to work with our families to provide a quality education whether we are in a school building or online for home. Although I have not met many of the children in person, I see them online often. I feel like part of your family when you invite me into your home via the computer. I am so proud of the children and care about them dearly. I appreciate the grown-up helpers who assist the children when they are online with me.

When the weather permits we try to get outside for a little fresh air. Please send the children with a warm coat, hat and gloves. The temperature in the classroom fluctuates so can you also send a sweater or sweatshirt they can put on if they get cold.

The children will continue to be required to wear clean masks when they come into the school building. I also suggest keeping an extra one in their change of clothes bag just in case something happens to the first one during the school day.

My name is Regina Schlusberg and I have been teaching for 28 years. I have a degree in Special Education K-12 and Regular Education PreK-6. I also have a degree in Early Childhood and I am a trained Montessori Teacher. I have a master’s degree in Educational Leadership.  I have taught grades Pre-K-6. I have been working at School 16 for 13 years.

I am very excited that your child and you will be joining our School 16 family. I know that this is not the way you wanted your child school year to begin, but this will not last forever. I will do my best to help your child have a wonderful year in Pre-K. I look forward to virtually meeting you next week. The only thing I ask that you are not only patient with me, but also with yourself. We are in this together.

To prepare your child for virtual classes please follow these simple steps.

Prior to each virtual class, please help your child to create an environment that will allow him or her to participate successfully in our lessons.

Things to consider:

-       Hard, flat surface to place laptop or device

-       Seating for your child.

-       Area to place supplies.

-       Is the space too bright or too dark?

-       Select a quiet area.

Your child will have a more successful experience during our virtual classes if distractions are minimized. Here are some ways you can help:

-       Turn off the TV.

-       Be present with your child to offer support and guidance if necessary.

-       Be sure your laptop or device is fully charged.

-       Monitor pets and siblings

There may be a few supplies your child will need for our virtual classes. I will send you the list a few days in advance of any scheduled virtual lessons. Please help your child gather these supplies before each session. Your child should have these supplies handy when you log into the meeting room.

One of the best ways you can support your child is during this time is to establish a consistent and predictable daily routine. I will be sending you picture cards to create a daily schedual with your child. If you need any help implementing the daily routine picture schedule, please let me know. You can reach me at: Rschlusberg@yonkerspublicschools.org
