Degrees and Certifications:

Mrs. Lisa Starkey

We are continuing our Big Day theme, "The Seasons"! The final unit in our theme is exploring the seasons. Please make sure you signed up for ABC mouse. An email was sent last week. If you did not receive it please look in your spam or junk folder or contact me and I can resend it. Also there has been a change in the district calandar. The last day of distance learning is June 18.

Please continue to go on razkids (the login is below). I created groups according to your childs readiness levels. I also added a new site for math similar to raz kids. The more practice your child get, the easier transition to kindergarden. Kindergarten expectations are that they can identify all of their letters (both upper and lower case) and numbers and quantities to 20.

It always makes me happy to see photos of your children and the hard work they have been putting in. Many of you dojo me your child's completed assignments. If you haven't done so, please send the photos so I could give your child credit and feedback for their hard work. To find this week's assignment click on the assignments tab. If you haven't done so please make sure you completed the previous weeks assignments. I file all the children's work in their dojo portfolio. Please check it to make sure it is all there.

If your child is struggling with any of the work assigned, please contact me so I could customise your child's learning and help target the areas they need help with. I am hear to assist you in any way possible. Our teaching assistant Ms. Velez is also available to help. Please check dojo on a daily basis.

Miss you all. Stay healthy and safe!

          Love,   Mrs. Starkey

  • Suggestions to support your child on a daily basis:

Read daily with your child. Ask comprehension questions such as "who are the characters in the story", "what is the story about", "what's your favorite part", "do the characters remind you of anybody". Please encourage your child to speak in complete sentences, giving rationale for their answers. Continue reviewing letters and sounds in isolation.

Count items to 20, have them match quantities with corresponding numbers, make various patterns, measure items around the house or on your outside adventures. Ask what is taller, shorter, bigger, smaller, thicker or heavier.

    Social Studies/Science

Talk to your child about the weather. What is the weather today? What was the weather yesterday? Discuss community workers and what jobs people do in the community. Talk about the seasons and signs of spring.
