Welcome to the Transitional Bilingual Education Program
The Robert C. Dodson School is proud to offer a Transitional Bilingual Education (TBE) Programfor Spanish speaking students in grades K-8. This program is designed to support Multilingual Learners (MLLs) as they develop fluency in English while maintaining and strengthening their native language skills.
Program Highlights
✅ Bilingual Instruction – Core subjects (Math, Science, Social Studies, and Language Arts) are taught in both English and Spanish. ✅ Certified Bilingual Teachers – Our educators are trained to provide high-quality instruction in English and Spanish that fosters academic success. ✅ Gradual English Transition – As students gain proficiency, instruction shifts progressively toward English while ensuring comprehension. ✅ Cultural Enrichment – We celebrate diversity and integrate cultural heritage into the learning experience. ✅ Small Group Support – Additional language support is available through ENL (English as a New Language) instruction.
Who Can Enroll?
Students in kindergarten through 8th grade who are newcomers,Multilingual Learners (MLLs) and speak Spanish at home are eligible for the program. Eligible students are assessed using the Home Language Questionnaire (HLQ) andtheNew York State Identification Test for English Language Learners the NYSITELL. The goal of our TBE program is to help students transition successfully to an all-English instructional environment while maintaining academic progress.
