Who was Robert C. Dodson?
Robert C. Dodson was a dedicated educator and leader in the Yonkers Public Schools system, known for his passion for music, his elegant style, and his commitment to students. Throughout his career, he held several important roles and left a lasting impact on the community.
Mr. Dodson began his career as a music teacher at Longfellow School and later taught music at Hawthorn Junior High School, where he shared his love of the piano with his students. His dedication to education led him to become the principal of Hawthorn Junior High School before moving on to serve as principal of Yonkers High School in the early 1970s.
Beyond his work as a principal, Mr. Dodson also served as the Director of Elementary Education at the Board of Education and eventually became the assistant to the superintendent of Yonkers Public Schools, a position he held until his passing in 1991.
Mr. Dodson was known not only for his professional achievements but also for his distinctive sense of style, especially his trademark bowtie. He had a deep appreciation for the arts, loved the theater, and enjoyed spending time visiting museums.
