What is P-TECH?
Riverside High School offers a 6-year course of study that culminates in an industry recognized Applied Associate Degree (A.A.S) in either electrical engineering or cybersecurity computer technology from Westchester Community College (WCC). Riverside P-Tech is part of the Global P-Tech Network encompassing 28 countries and is partnered with the IBM P-Tech Network. Currently there are 6 P-Tech Cohorts at Riverside. Cohort 1 students have completed their A.A.S degree in Electrical Technology and Cybersecurity programs. Cohort 2 and 3 students are pursuing the A.A.S degree as full-time students at WCC.
Students will be engaged in rigorous college level courses as early as 9th grade and participate in work-based learning experiences with Riverside industry and community partnerships through mentoring programs and workshops, workplace tours, job shadowing and programs and internship opportunities. College Link (CL) courses begin in 9th grade. P-Tech students have to follow the pre-determined courses sequences. P-Tech students can take additional Advanced Placement courses as offered at the school. In order to take college link Math and English courses, students must obtain minimum qualifications in their high school course work and Regents examinations. P-Tech students are scheduled based on their strengths and abilities to develop and hone their skills all-around. P-Tech students participate in all high school activities such as sports, clubs, and most are inducted into various Honor Societies at the school earning distinction in both academics and extra-curricular activities. P-Tech students participate in summer academy, extended learning time, Saturday Regents Prep, and other enrichment activities. It is expected that P-Tech students and families stay committed to the P-Tech mission in order to receive a tuition free A.A.S degree in either Electrical Technology or Cybersecurity.
