Yonkers Board of Education Adopts 2019-2020 School District Budget
The Yonkers Board of Education adopted the 2019-2020 School District Budget at the Wednesday, June 19, 2019 Stated Meeting. By unanimous vote, the Trustees approved a $633,050,499 budget.

Eid-al-Fitr Added to Academic Calendar
The Trustees unanimously adopted a resolution, “to recognize Eid-al-Fitr on the academic calendar of the Yonkers City School District, beginning with the 2019-2020 school year, and continuing each school year thereafter, as an approved religious observance day.

Compostable Trays Replace Polystyrene in Lunchrooms
Mayor Mike Spano, along with Yonkers Board of Education President Rev. Steve Lopez and Superintendent of Schools Dr. Edwin M. Quezada, announced Yonkers Public Schools has replaced all of its polystyrene (known as Styrofoam) food trays with 100% recyclable food trays.

Free Breakfast & Lunch Begins July 1
Yonkers children 18 years of age and younger are invited to enjoy breakfast and lunch at no charge from July 1 through August 9 at 5 schools throughout the city.

Free Football Clinic for High School Students
NY Streets arena football players are offering a free clinic for students in grades 8-12 on Wednesday, June 12 from 3:30-5:30pm at Roosevelt High School-Early College Studies. This clinic is open to any Yonkers student.

Schools Open Monday, April 15: Snow Makeup Day
It is necessary to make up a day of school because of the number of snow days used so far this school year. As per the District calendar adopted last April, makeup days were scheduled for Spring Recess, if required. Therefore, Monday, April 15, 2019 will be a regular school day. All schools will be open for instruction.

Not to Be Missed: The Annual All City Concert Thursday, 4/11
Yonkers Public Schools presents the Annual All-City Concert Thursday, April 11, 2019 beginning at 7:00PM at Lincoln High School, 375 Kneeland Avenue. The concert, a cherished tradition for more than 30 years, features the All City Secondary Concert Band, the All City Jazz Band, the All City Elementary Choir, and the All City High School Choir. Yonkers residents are welcome to enjoy the evening. There is no charge for admission.

Family Math Day!
The first Yonkers Public Schools Parent/Child Family Math Day is set for Saturday, April 27, 2019 from 8:00AM to 1:30PM at Lincoln High School. The day is filled with hands-on workshops for Kindergarten through Grade 5 students, including, Multiplication Bingo, Play Dough Sculpting, Sudoku for All! and so much more. 3rd Annual Artists with Autism Exhibition Opening Gala
The annual art exhibition celebrating young artists with autism is underway in the event space at Yonkers Public Library Riverfront branch now through April 30, 2019. A gala reception honoring the artists, teachers and families, was held at the library last week, officially opening the exhibit, and is open throughout the month of April. Highly recommended!

Graduation Rate Remains Strong
The Yonkers Public Schools graduation rate for the Class of 2018 is 86% with our August graduates included, surpassing the statewide rate of 83%, according to data released by the NY State Education Department yesterday.
