Learning Standards for Health
Standard 1: Personal Health and Fitness Students will have the necessary knowledge and skills to establish and maintain physical fitness, participate in physical activity, and maintain personal health.
Standard 2: A Safe and Healthy Environment. Students will acquire the knowledge and ability necessary to create and maintain a safe and healthy environment.
Standard 3: Resource Management. Students will understand and be able to manage their personal and community resources.

Health Education Regulation
HIV/AIDS Prevention Education Instruction
Above is a copy of the commissioner's regulation. The regulation states that "No pupil is required to receive instruction concerning the methods of prevention of HIV/AIDS if the parent or legal guardian of such pupil has filed with the principal of the school where the pupil attends a written request that the pupil does not participate in such instruction, with an assurance that the pupil will receive such instruction at home."
Parent or legal guardian may not opt out student from required lesson on the Nature of the disease and Methods of transmission

In August 2019, New York State became the 37th state to sign Erin’s Law into legislation. New York State’s law, (Chapter 187 of the Laws of 2019(link is external)) - known as Erin's Law - requires public schools to teach child sexual abuse and exploitation prevention classes to students in kindergarten through eighth grade.
