Hello, and welcome back to the 2020-2021 school year! I have been teaching for 20 years now and 15 of those have been at Lincoln High School. Even after all these years, I still very much get excited for each new class and can’t wait to meet you all! I look forward to this school year with you and can’t wait to see us succeed together :)

Good Morning Everyone.  It is Monday June 15, 2020…Our 14th week of distance learning and LAST WEEK OF THE SCHOOL YEAR!!!!. 

 

Hope everyone had a great weekend and taking care of themselves and being safe. As we enter our last week, I will just like to thank you all for a great year. We faced a difficult situation with the change to distance learning and all, but you all stepped up and did your best so thank you! I look forward to seeing you guys again in September, hopefully in person at that point.

In honor of Memorial Day, which is Monday May, 25 , here is a Brain Pop lesson for extra credit.

Memorial Day is a day to celebrate all American soldiers who died while serving in the military. 

 

Interesting Memorial Day Facts:

  • Each year on the final Monday in May the United States celebrates the federal holiday Memorial Day.
  • It became a federal holiday in 1971.
  • Congress passed a law in 2000 that requires all Americans to stop what they are doing at 3pm on Memorial Day to remember and to honor those who have died serving the United States. President Clinton signed this action.
  • The flag is supposed to be flown at half-mast until noon, and then raised to full mast until sunset on Memorial Day.
  • Although not as popular today, one tradition was to eat a picnic meal while sitting on the ground of a cemetery.
  • Memorial Day is also a popular day for people to visit cemeteries and honor those who have died while serving in the military.
  • It's estimated that approximately 32 million people travel by car over Memorial Day weekend.
  • Memorial Day also marks the beginning of the summer vacation season while Labor Day marks the end.
  • There are more than 300,000 fallen soldiers buried at Arlington Cemetery. On average, there are 28 burials there each day.

 

So please take a moment this weekend to honor those that served our nation and are no longer with us.
