Under the leadership of Principal Dr. Edward Beglane, Thomas Cornell Academy has increased its Math scores by 17% over the last four years, serves as the only school with a dual language program and established Yonkers Public Schools’ first elementary school track team, which participates in the Yonkers Marathon every October.
“Congratulations to Thomas Cornell Academy, the administration, teachers, staff and parents, who all are contributing to our students’ solid educational foundation,” said Mayor Spano. “Thomas Cornell Academy does an excellent job at motivating and inspiring our young people to better themselves and others. I applaud the nurturing community they’ve established there and wish them continued success.”
Dr. Edwin M. Quezada, Superintendent of Yonkers Public Schools said, “At Thomas Cornell Academy the students are thriving in their academics and athletics with Principal Dr. Beglane and the staff. In the Dual Language program students simultaneously excel in English and Spanish. Congratulations to the students, parents, teachers, staff and administration on being named School of the Month.”
Board of Education President Rev. Steve Lopez added, “On behalf of the Board of Education trustees, I would like to applaud Principal Dr. Beglane and his staff’s commitment to the wonderful children of Thomas Cornell Academy. The family atmosphere of this school is evident as soon as you walk through the door.”
Mayor Spano’s School of the Month recognition program began in January 2014 as a way to celebrate the significant academic success, extracurricular achievements and community volunteerism of Yonkers’ students, teachers, administration and staff at Yonkers Public Schools.
