Eligible Age Requirements

The eligible age requirements for children entering prekindergarten and kindergarten in September, 2025 are:

• Prekindergarten students must be 4 years-of-age with a birth date on or before December 1, 2021
• Kindergarten students must be 5 years-of-age with a birth date on or before December 1, 2020
• For Universal Prekindergarten-3, students must be 3 years-of-age with a birth date on or before December 1, 2022. This program is contingent upon grant funding approval for the 2025-2026 school year.
  • NOTE: UPK-3 enrollment begins March 2025

In order to verify your child’s age, The District requires that you submit a certified copy of a birth certificate or record of baptism (including a certified transcript of a foreign birth certificate or record of baptism) giving the date of birth. IF such document is not available, the District will accept a passport (including a foreign passport) in order to establish your child’s age.

Birth certificates for students born outside of Yonkers may be obtained from the city or state where the child was born.

In the event that the above listed documentation is not available, the District may consider certain other documents or recorded evidence, as long as it has been in existence for two years or more. Such other evidence include, but is not limited to, the following:

• State or other government issued identification
• School photo identification with date of birth
• Consulate identification card
• Hospital or health records
• Military dependent identification card
• Documents issued by federal, state, or local agencies (e.g. local social service agency, local social security office, federal Office of Refugee Resettlement)
• Court orders or other court-issued documents
• Native American tribal document
• Records from non-profit international aid agencies and voluntary agency
