Dr. Quezada's phone call to Yonkers Public Schools families:

Today, Governor Cuomo announced schools could open in September because New York’s number of COVID cases remain low.  We accomplished this by observing social distancing, wearing face coverings, and proper hand washing.

To reopen schools, each district submitted a plan to the State Education Department last week, which followed the guidelines provided by the Education and Health departments, and the CDC.  Yonkers Public Schools prepared a robust reopening of schools plan that explains our protocols to reopen in September.  Our top priority is the safety and well-being of our students and staff.  The plan is available for your review. Please be assured that the district will work very hard with our administrators, teachers and parents to reopen our schools.

The Governor required school districts to specifically point out three key components of their plans and to post them prominently on their websites.  These include remote learning procedures for students, clearly define health testing and contact tracing protocols.  Over the next two weeks, Yonkers must also hold five parent town hall meetings to explain and answer questions about our plan as well as a separate meeting for teachers.  Dates, times and virtual and in-person locations will be available early next week.  I call you and post them on our website.

Once again, I am asking for your support and collaboration as we navigate this unprecedented time for your children and your family.

I hope that you are enjoying your summer vacation while ensuring that you and your children are observing all of the necessary COVID-19 protocols.  Please stay safe and have a good weekend.
