Dear Class of 2024:

You hold in your hands access and opportunity to increase your college options and decrease your financial burden. To assist you, the District compiled this resource of scholarships available to Yonkers students. I urge you to pay particular attention to the tremendous opportunities available to you with the State University of New York. These are described in the enclosed letter signed by Chancellor King and myself.

Community organizations and individuals believe in providing Yonkers’ young adults with opportunities to access and excel in college, by sponsoring scholarships. To take advantage of the scholarships in this book, students must complete and submit applications to the scholarship sponsors, who will make the final determination as to scholarship award recipients. In addition to these, there are countless other opportunities available to graduating seniors to obtain support through the College Board and private organizations.

Therefore, it is important for you to carefully review this Scholarship Book with your parents/guardians. Additionally, you should also speak with your School Counselors, regarding additional scholarships available on a state and/or national basis. School Counselors will guide you through the various forms of financial aid assistance. Please note that all of our high schools also sponsor FAFSA/Senior events.

The Naviance Program is another useful tool for college and scholarship searches. More importantly, you can use it for completing online scholarship applications. Use your Naviance accounts to support you throughout the college process. If you do not have access to your log-in information, see your School Counselor in your school’s Guidance Office. Additionally, use your College Board account for other scholarship opportunities, utilizing the BigFuture link at collegeboard.com, which is full of additional college planning features.

The Yonkers Public Schools District is ready to work with you and your family to achieve your career and college goals. Our schools are educating students to meet the challenges of an economically competitive, technologically advanced, culturally diverse, and knowledge-based 21st century global society.
