Mercy College Center for STEM Education Selects Two From YPS as Master Teacher Fellows

  • The Mercy College Center for STEM Education selected Marguerita Street, a teacher at Palisade Preparatory School, and Michelyn Goodin, a teacher at Museum School 25, to join their inaugural cohort of STEM Master Teacher Fellows along with 5 other teachers from 4 neighboring districts.

Through this program, the fellows will take graduate-level coursework in STEM pedagogy, participate in professional development opportunities through additional partners (New York University’s Tandon School of Engineering and the Sarah Lawrence College Center for the Urban River at Beczak), and coordinate leadership projects in the District to promote a STEM culture.

Additionally, Sunitha Howard, a teacher at School 5, was selected as a New York State Master Teacher. Ms. Lesia Kaszczak and Ms. Alecia Redway have previously been honored as New York State Master Teachers.

As a Master Teacher, Ms. Howard will be engaging in intensive content professional development, collaborate with pre-service and early career teachers to support the success of STEM education, and lead professional development sessions for fellow Master Teachers and teachers within Yonkers Public Schools.
