National History Day Competitors

  • UPDATE! Great news from New York History Day in Cooperstown, where our very able competitors from Enrico Fermi School took 1st place in the Group Documentary, and 3rd in Group Performance, both earning a berth at the national competition taking place in Maryland in June! Congratulations to all.

(April 24, 2019) Twelve Enrico Fermi 7th graders are headed upstate to Cooperstown this weekend for New York History Day, where they will defend their scholarship on the 2019 theme, Triumph and Tragedy in History.  They already did so by winning first place honors at a regional competition held at St. Thomas Aquinas last month, when the school's enlarged team went head to head with more experienced competitors. The student teams won 3 first place medals and a 3rd place showing with guidance from teachers Mrs. Yanik-Campo, Ms. Gomes, and Ms. Alfonso. First place winners have now advanced to the State competition.

History Bee Regional Tri-State Completion and National History Bee & Bowl

In January, Yonkers Middle High School and PEARLS Hawthorne School participated in the History Bee Regional Tri-State Competition.  Students from Yonkers High placed first or second in all events, qualifying them for the National Competition. The History Bee tests their knowledge of U.S., European, and World histories.  All of the students competing had to qualify by taking an online test.

The three 9th graders at Yonkers High, Anup De, Julian Ortiz, and Nicholas Sanchez are competing this weekend at the National History Bee and Bowl competition in Arlington, VA, accompanied by coach/teacher Tara O’Sullivan.  Thank you to Yonkers Middle High School’s PTA for their support for the students’ participation.
