Yonkers Public Schools Declares First Friday in June National Gun Violence Awareness Day

  • In an emotional moment at the City Hall Unity Fountain last Monday, Board of Education President Rev. Steve Lopez, accompanied by Superintendent of Schools Quezada, declared that the the "first Friday in June will forever be National Gun Violence Prevention Day in the Yonkers Public Schools."

The District has joined the City of Yonkers, and the nation to raise awareness about what each of us can do to help save lives from gun violence.

In a symbolic gesture, and in solidarity with people of good will all over the country, #YPSWearsOrange was the "dress code" for today.
