Honors for Lincoln High School!

  • School of the Month

Mayor Mike Spano today joined members of Yonkers City Council and Yonkers Board of Education to present the School of the Month Award for February 2019 to the deserving administration, faculty, staff, parents and students at Lincoln High School. Under the leadership of Principal Ian Sherman, Lincoln High School boasted an 88% graduation last year – the highest in school history.

“Lincoln High School should be proud of their achievements over the last year,” said Mayor Mike Spano. “Under the leadership of Principal Sherman and the amazing staff and teachers, the school is fostering a thirst for knowledge that has resulted in our students blossoming academically and socially. I wish them continued success.”

In addition to historic graduation rates, Lincoln High School was recognized for the success of their Scientific Research Academy, its commitment to President Barack Obama’s “My Brother’s Keeper” initiative and the successful growth of the Lincoln High School Black Culture Club.

Board of Education President Rev. Steve Lopez noted, “The administrators, teachers and support staff at Lincoln School must be applauded for encouraging a school environment in which students thrive academically, socially and emotionally.  On behalf of the Board of Education Trustees, we congratulate the entire school community on receiving this well-deserved award.”

Mayor Spano presented the staff and students with a proclamation from City Hall, forever declaring March 27, 2019 as “Lincoln High School Day” in the City of Yonkers.  The Mayor also presented, on behalf of Yonkers Public Schools partner McGraw Hill Education, a $5,000 gift certificate for Principal Sherman to utilize towards educational materials and textbooks next school year.

"Lincoln High School has flourished under the leadership of Principal Ian Sherman, who works closely with the teachers, staff, parents and PTA," said Dr. Edwin M. Quezada, Superintendent of Schools. “He empowers his staff to provide a learning environment that meets the needs of all children and integrates arts and cultural enrichment on a daily basis.”
